We can thoroughly recommend the Classic Mid Atlantic tour. For anyone who has not visited the States before, it would be an excellent introduction to the early history of the USA. Howie our Tour Director was superb. He was well informed but didn't burden us with too much information, very efficient, and he had a lovely sense of humour which helped the group to 'gel'. The hotels were excellent; from the spectacular (Marriot Marquis in New York) to the individual (Arts Hotel in Lancaster). Waking up in Niagara, opening the curtains and watching the sun rise over the Horseshoe Falls was a wonderful experience. The local guides were also superb. There were a lot of early starts, but it often meant that we got to sites of interest before the crowds. Now, we are looking forward to our next Insight Vacation. Thank you. Day 1: A Monumental Time in Washington D.C.

Enjoy your complimentary private V.I.P. door-to-door transfer to your UK departure airport. Welcome to Washington, D.C., the nation's capital! On arrival at the airport, your transfer takes you to your luxurious hotel proclaimed by President Truman to be Washington, D.C.'s “Second Best Address” after the White House. At 6.00 pm, join your Tour Director for a Welcome Reception and an opportunity to mingle and get to know each other over drinks and a light meal.

Day 2: Washington D.C. Sightseeing

This morning, immerse yourself in the proud heritage of a nation. Join a local expert to view the White House, the striking Washington Monument and sprawling National Mall. Reflect on the country's most turbulent days at the Lincoln Memorial and the somber World War II memorial. The rest of the day is at leisure to chart your own course through the capital. Suggestions include one of the renowned Smithsonian museums or a stroll around Dupont Circle neighbourhood, designed by Pierre Charles L'Enfant just after the Civil War.

Day 3: Gettysburg and Pittsburgh, from Battles to Bridges

Depart for Gettysburg this morning. Cannons blazing, trumpets sounding, the blue and the gray - join your local expert at the site of one of the Civil War's most pivotal battles. Just four months after the historic struggle, the battlefield was also the backdrop for Abraham Lincoln's call for “a new birth of freedom” in his famed Gettysburg Address. Move on to Pittsburgh, the City of Bridges. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant where delicious cuisine is complemented by breathtaking views of the city at night.

Day 4: Niagara Falls

Start your day with a visit to the Cathedral of Learning. Listed in the National Registry of Historic Places, this 535 ft tall (163 metres), 42-story Pittsburgh landmark, is the centrepiece of the University of Pittsburgh's main campus. One of the cathedral's most interesting features consists of 28 ‘Nationality Rooms,' classrooms designed by members of the community in the styles of different nations and ethnic groups. Continue north to cross the border toward Lake Erie and into Niagara Falls where your hotel overlooks the majestic Horseshoe Falls in all their glory. As the evening approaches, ascend the Skylon Tower, Niagara Fall's highest and most spectacular viewpoint. A Highlight Dinner is served 775 ft (236 metres) up in the famous dining room, which slowly rotates once an hour, offering panoramic views of the falls below. Once you've pried yourself away from the window, settle in for a good night's sleep.

Day 5: Niagara Up Close

In the morning, get an up close look at the thundering falls during a cruise to the base of the cascades. Browse the shops and galleries of Niagara-on-the-Lake. The region's climate is ideal for wine-making, so stop at a local winery for a taste, before returning to your hotel.

Day 6: A Touch of Glass on the way to Lancaster

Continue your discovery of the Mid-Atlantic's unique characteristics with a visit to the ultra-modern Corning Museum of Glass. Learn about the art, history, culture, technology, science, craft and design that, combined, tell the riveting story of the museum's single material - glass. Watch master artisans at work as they form the raw material into delicate shapes and figures and sandblast your own keepsake! Later, arrive in Lancaster.

Day 7: The Amish Country and Philadelphia

Roll back in time to explore the rural back roads of Pennsylvania's Lancaster County. Learn about the traditional agricultural lifestyle of the Amish and the Mennonites, who live much the same as they did when they first settled here over 200 years ago. Continue toward Longwood Gardens, one of the world's premier horticulture showplaces. Stroll through the conservatory, outdoor gardens and fountains, amongst the beautiful scenery. Then onward to Philadelphia where this evening, your Tour Director offers you a selection of local restaurants for your dining pleasure.

Day 8: A Bite of the Big Apple

Walk in the footsteps of Benjamin Franklin in the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia. Amid “America's Most Historic Square Mile” view Independence Hall, visit the Liberty Bell and enjoy some time on your own to explore the Independence National Historic Park. Then it's on to New York City. This afternoon, enjoy a harbour cruise for glittering views of Manhattan's skyline, Ellis Island and the towering Statue of Liberty. This evening is at leisure at your hotel, located in the heart of Times Square and the Broadway theatre district.

Day 9: Exploring NYC

Today, take a bite of the Big Apple on a tour of the city's highlights with a local expert. Then ascend to the “Top of the Rock,” the 70th floor of the Rockefeller Building, for a sweeping view of the skyscrapers, parks, rivers and urban canyons that make up the teeming isle of Manhattan.
