Day 1: ARRIVE ST. JOHN'S (2 NIGHTS)

Enjoy your complimentary private V.I.P. door-to-door transfer to your UK departure airport. 

Arrive in St. John's where you will transfer to your hotel in the heart of the city's downtown core. At 6 p.m., gather with your Travel Director and fellow travellers for a festive Welcome Reception.

Day 2: CAPE SPEAR AND ST. JOHN'S SIGHTSEEING 

Get ready for a unique experience today as you make your way to witness the sunrise at Cape Spear, North America's most easterly point, and the first rays of light to be seen by anyone on the continent. Weather permitting, breakfast will be served alfresco or at a waterfront café in the quaint fishing village of Petty Harbour. End the morning with a guided city tour of St. John's, the oldest city in North America. This afternoon meet your host, a local chef, and head to the local farmer's market to shop for tonight's Be My Guest filled with warm Newfoundland hospitality and delicious local specialities as you sample local produce and homemade products before your dinner is prepared before your eyes.

Day 3:  ST. JOHN'S – WITLESS BAY – TRINITY (2 NIGHTS)

A great day lies in wake as you make your way to the Southern Shore to witness the multitude of sea birds that frequent the ecological reserve at Witless Bay. Millions of puffins, murres and kittiwakes, whales and porpoises, seals and even the odd walrus congregate in this area to nest. This afternoon, travel across the Isthmus of Avalon to the picturesque town of Trinity. Your hotel has guestrooms located in various historic houses throughout town.

Day 4: BONAVISTA EXCURSION

Make your way to Bonavista. View the local flora and fauna as you loop the peninsula, including the south side of Bonavista Bay. Here, Newfoundland's fishing industry continues to thrive as a living testimony to the vast wealth and importance it represented to the island's people. Return to Trinity for an evening at leisure.

Day 5: TRINITY – TERRA NOVA NATIONAL PARK – GANDER 

TSpend the day exploring Terra Nova National Park with its lush woodlands, beautiful ocean inlets and wildlife reserve. Stroll along a sandy beach, wade in the shallow waters of a tidal pool and bear witness to the awe inspiring views the region is so famous for. Later, a dinner will incorporate a Mad Men theme at Gander's perfectly preserved, late 1950s, retro airport terminal. Today Gander is probably better known for the kindness extended to travellers who were grounded there during the tragic events of 9­11 and as a Cultural Insight, you'll hear the story of how the city and its residents came to rescue from a city statesman.

Day 6:  GANDER – TWILLINGATE – GRAND FALLS 

The theme of Newfoundland's most famous tune, I'se the Bye, is incorporated into the route today formed by Fogo, Twillingate and Moreton's Harbour. This is what locals refer to as Iceberg Alley. You may be fortunate enough to witness the majestic masses of glacial ice while learning more about Newfoundland's indigenous people, the unique names and the music of Georgina Sterling – "The Nightingale of the North". En route to Grand Falls, see the beautiful shorelines of Notre Dame Bay and stop at the Development Centre in Lewisporte whose sale of high quality local crafts finances their charitable work throughout the year. Tonight, dig into a traditional Jigg's dinner, a staple Sunday meal for Newfoundlanders since the days of the first explorers.

Day 7: GRAND FALLS – GROS MORNE NATIONAL PARK – SHALLOW BAY

Enjoy a stop at Grand Falls, the town's namesake. Listen to an informative discussion of the Atlantic salmon migrations, the paper mill and its influence on everything from the lives of the local people to transatlantic flight. A relaxing drive will take you across the island to the shores of Bonne Bay. Enjoy an afternoon boat cruise on what is perhaps the most entertaining boat tour in the world. Crewed by the members of the comedy troop Anchors Aweigh, these unique Local Specialists will regale you with their interpretative knowledge, song, dance and humor. Arrive at Norris Point and continue your exploration of Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its unusual landscapes caused by past glaciation periods. Late this afternoon, savour a traditional lobster dinner and Regional Meal in Rocky Harbour, before arriving at your hotel.

Day 8: SHALLOW BAY – ST. ANTHONY

The day begins with a beautiful drive as you wind your way along the Great Northern Peninsula and trace the narrow coastal plain that separates the straights from the foothills on the last leg of the Appalachian Mountain chain. View some of the most pristine wetlands on the planet. It provides the best opportunity to potentially spot moose, caribou and black bear. Later, arrive at your hotel before enjoying a savoury dinner with your fellow travellers.

Day 9: ST. ANTHONY – L'ANSE AUX MEADOWS – L'ANSE AU CLAIR

St. Anthony is a lovely community that boasts a wide variety of activities and dining experiences with a Viking theme. Tour L'Anse aux Meadows, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with a Local Specialist. View its sod huts and ancient artefacts and learn what life was like for the Vikings. There is much history to share and experience before catching the ferry to Labrador this evening, a crossing that is often highlighted by whale, seal and porpoise sightings, icebergs and, of course, a myriad of sea birds.

Day 10: L'ANSE AU CLAIR – RED BAY – PLUM POINT 

Labrador is locally known as the "Big Land" and today will emphasize the "big." Visit one of the highest stone lighthouses in all of North America and stop to watch fly fishermen test their patience against the elusive Atlantic salmon. Visit Red Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where Basque whalers established factories to refine the oil that lit the lamps of Europe for over 100 years. Later today, the ferry will take you back to the island. Tonight, enjoy a convivial dinner with your travelling companions.

Day 11: PLUM POINT – CORNER BROOK

Today, walk through the archaeological site at Port Aux Choix, which dates back to 2000 BC and was home to the Maritime Archaic and Dorset peoples. Next it's off to wondrous Broom Point for a chance to visit a perfectly preserved fishing camp. At Lobster Cove Lighthouse, spend some time at the Interpretation Center, then continue on with a drive through the spectacular Humber Valley and arrive in Corner Brook, Newfoundland's second largest city. Before a festive Farewell Dinner, meet a Local Specialist and learn about the history of local Newfoundland and Labrador dog breeds.
